Vapor Barriers
Vapor Barriers help protect your home from mold, mildew, and critter infestation brought on by standing water in the basement or crawl space. Safe Home Resource is your trusted resource to inspect, replair, and replace vapor barriers in your home.
Crawl Space Vapor Barriers
Crawl spaces are common in many homes in the Pacific Northwest. Mobile homes and pillar and post homes are the most common residences where you’ll find small spaces underneath the main living area joists and flooring. When kept dry and clean, crawl spaces allow easy access to plumbing and electrical systems beneath the house. In some cases, they provide additional storage space for outdoor gear, gardening equipment, kayaks, canoes and more.
Most crawl space vapor barriers are made of plastic or polyurethane sheeting, but foils and foam boards can also be used when needed. Once nests, debris, and old vapor barrier material is cleared, and the space is sanitized and dried, clean sheeting can be anchored directly into the ground, covering the entire square footage of the crawlspace. Floor joists, which act as the ceiling of a crawl space, may also be protected with spray foam or batt insulation.
Basement Vapor Barriers
The only time it makes sense to add vapor barrier to a finished basement is during new construction or a complete remodel. Basement vapor barriers are applied directly to the foundation framing before insulation, electric, plumbing, drywall, and finishing paint are added. If you’re building or remodeling your house, count on us to provide maximum protection with a professionally installed basement vapor barrier.
